Maria Miranda, LCSW
Maria Miranda is a life-long family caregiver and a NY state licensed social worker for older adults and the family members that support them. She began her caregiver journey at the age of 9, helping her grandmother and mother care for her late grandfather. She then went on to care for her late grandmother and is now helping her mother care for her step-father. Her personal caregiver experience led her to becoming a community-based social worker. For over 3 years, she has been providing support and services for older adults in the East Bronx so that they can age in place in their homes and communities. Maria is also an advocate in the family caregiver and aging space, partnering with several related advocacy organizations to build and strengthen policies so that older adults and family caregivers can survive and thrive in their communities. She is a National Advisory Council Member for the American Association of Caregiving Youth and a 2024 Caring Across Generations Care Fellow.
Kids Are Caregivers, Too:
Supporting Caregiving Youth in the U.S.
with Maria Miranda
Maria's presentation will focus on the realities facing caregiving youth in the United States, including the lack of visibility these children and teens continue to have in support systems and policy.
Through research, storytelling, and discussion of current interventions, her presentation will examine how caregiving youth are affected and what must happen next to build stronger, more sustainable support.
